So, who wants to buy Diamant, Bomar or Sir Lando?

(20/03/2013)

Today, Bomar and Sir Lando have passed the million-mark and Diamant already got very close as a juvenile. Obviously, these three horses are not for sale as my headline suggests – but at some point of their lives they were for sale – as yearlings!

Sir Lando was bought for 65,000 euros in Deauville, Bomar cost 33,000 guineas in Newmarket, and Diamant was bought for 40,000 euros in Baden-Baden. All of them through our long-time and loyal bloodstock agent, Peter Doyle.

When Bomar and Diamant were knocked down to Peter Doyle Bloodstock on behalf of our stable, there were no intended owners, anyone was welcome to join us by investing in a potential future star. As goes for Bomar, he was bought by Bo Tommy Nygård, who only had one previous race horse in training. A handicapper, who I suggested he should sell on in order to pursue the dream of a Derby Winner.

Bomar/Carlos Lopez. Photo by Stefan Olsson / Svensk Galopp

The three horses previously mentioned were born in England, Ireland and Germany. The fact is though, that we’ve done well with horses from everywhere – price and nationality is not a factor!

The results of our stable through a very long career, long surpassed 1300 winners, have always been based on the type of horse my clients have liked. To my luck, many have pursued the same dream as Bo Tommy Nygård – to win a Derby. We’ve won 19 so far.

We’ve also won big races with “home breds” such as Lorofino, Icaros, Killaden, Ilo, Wellness, Cut Siegerin and Funny Legend, who were all owned by their respective breeders – again, only doing our best with the kind of product our owners want.

My question now is – what can I do for YOU? I know I can’t promise a new Diamant, Bomar or Sir Lando – but I will certainly do my best with your next horse. Whatever type, price or nationality it may have.

Six horses off to Germany

(09/01/2013)

The preparations for the upcoming turf season is going well ahead, and this upcoming Friday we will send six of our top contenders on the road to Germany.

Unfortunately the turf season in Norway does not get underway before May 17, and for us to have our horses in best possible shape when the line of top level races in Scandinavia begin, we need to search outside Scandinavia for these kind of preparations.

3-y-o recruits Diamant, Mill Marin and Viviannasdream, last year's Swedish Derby winner Bomar, Derby runner-up Funinthesand and Scandinavian Champion Sir Lando are all set to join our German stable staff in Krefeld outside Cologne, and they will all have upcoming assignments in Germany and France.

The first target for Diamant is a Group 3 for 3-y-o's in Frankfurt, while both Mill Marin and Viviannasdream will be out to prove their great potential in the early turf season.

Bomar and Funinthesand have various aims in both Germany and France, and they will both have to step up from their previous form to settle themselves within the Scandinavian elite. By running in Listed company abroad, we will get indications of how they've matured over the winter.

Sir Lando will target the Group 2 Grosser Preis der Badischen Unternehmer in Baden-Baden on May 12, leading up to the Group 2 Gerling-Preis in Cologne on May 30, before heading back to Scandinavia to defend his title in the Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris at Täby on June 11.

During the period of January and May, I will commute between Oslo and Cologne to maintain our work and interests with each single individual in training.

Happy New Year

(04/01/2013)

I'm thrilled by looking back at 2012.

In addition to celebrate our 19th Derby Winner, the year had many highlights, including Sir Lando's two astonishing wins in the Stockholms Stora Pris (Gr.3) and Walter Nilsens Memorial (Gr.3), and Champion 2-y-o Diamant's fabulous crusade with five wins from six runs on three different race tracks.

In 2012 we were crowned Champions of Jägersro, Sweden, with BOMAR (Sir Percy) winning the Listed Swedish Derby as the primary highlight. We were also the stable earning most regular prize money in Sweden, well helped by the triumphs of Bomar, Funinthesand, Sir Lando and Mill Marin.

Sir Lando had an injury scare leading up to his tilt at the Marit Sveaas Memorial (Gr.3) on Norwegian Derby Day, and he did not run for the rest of the season. He is very much so on his way back, and we're still aiming him at the top level races in both Scandinavia and Germany - I still believe he is capable of winning an International Group One, and 2013 is the time to prove it.

Among the horses we said farewell to in the previous year were Classic winners Geordie Iris and La Zona.

La Zona had a glorious career, winning the Swedish 1000 Guineas and Oaks during her classic campaign, and later proving herself as a top filly and older mare, winning multiple Listed events around Scandinavia. She is now in Ireland, preparing for her first date with the high class sire Acclamation.

Marking the start of 2013, the time has also come for our stable to join the social network Facebook. Our page is up and running, and in the future this is the place to find quick updates, photos and other memories. As the new main season approaches, we will also join Twitter.

Follow us on Facebook here!

I wish you all a very pleasant New Year, and please always feel free to visit us online or at our Øvrevoll stable.

Comments from Stockholm, 25th November

(26/11/2012)

SIMIAN: He was drawn in stall one and had to stay on the rail. He was unlucky never to find an opnening and saw daylight too late. He finished very well and could have won with a bit of luck.

FUNINTHESAND: He went too fast from the gate and battled for the lead without getting any cover. In the end he ran out of gas, but still ended his season gamely.

CASSANO: Finished just behind Funinthesand. He was waited long with from a wide draw, but kept on in the closing stages and made a fine effort.

RED COLORI: Keeps improving and won another fine race. He is fabulous on the dirt when the track isn't too hard, and has now moved very close to the Scandinavian elite.

Diamant takes 5th straight

(21/11/2012)

Stall EOS' 2-y-o champion Diamant took his amount of straight wins to five, when tackling dirt track for the first time at Jägersro, Sweden.

Photo by Stefan Olsson / Svensk Galopp.

Ridden by Jan-Erik Neuroth, Diamant put on a tremendous display on a loose surface and with kick back that absolutely didn't suit him at all. From a difficult inside draw he was taken to the outside around the first turn, and he was waited with until the middle of the last bend, before being pushed clear to win as he pleased.

Viviannasdream, running in the 1200m Manoustielöpning, never got to show his fine action on a surface not suiting at all, but he did well to finish placed, and I'm now looking much forward to the progress of both him and Diamant over the winter.

Bomar takes the "Triple Crown" at Jägersro

(07/11/2012)

Bomar, our greatly gifted 3-y-o Swedish Derby winner, completed our goal of  taking the internal Triple Crown at Jägersro, Sweden.

Ridden by Carlos Lopez, Bo Tommy Nygård's colt survived a difficult run on the rail to run away by two lengths from stable companion Funinthesand, making the Hurricanelöpning a one-two for our yard.

Photo by Stefan Olsson / Svensk Galopp.

It was a feeling of pure joy to see Bomar sweep past his rivals down the straight. He showed incredible toughness to move between horses, and the fast dirt track made him flow through the surface.

I will be greatly looking forward to see Bomar take on the elite of Scandinavian racing next term. He completed 2012 with four wins including the Listed Swedish Derby and a second in the Listed Norwegian Derby. His life earning has also passed 2 million Swedish Kroner.

Photo by Stefan Olsson / Svensk Galopp.

I was also highly satisfied by the run of Funinthesand. He was galloping from the front and needed to steady his tempo without ruining his action, and he fought well to claim second behind Bomar. If the dirt track at Täby proves all right, Funinthesand will have one more outing this year in the Michael Kahn's Memorial back over a mile.

On the same Sunday card at Jägersro, Funinthesand's 2-y-o half sister Rock The Legend finish third against tough competition. She was used out of the gate to get a position from draw number 12, and she didn't get cover behind the leader on the back stretch, which caused her to tire in the end. I believe she did very well, and there will be a lot more to come from her next year.

No agreement for 1st Jockey in 2013

(25/10/2012)

After a recent meeting with our assigned first jockey, Fredrik Johansson, it has been agreed that the cooperation will not continue into 2013.

No arrangement has been made for a new first jockey, but I am open for queries to see if the right name turns up.

The cooperation between our stable and Fredrik Johansson has lasted for 17 years - almost the same time period as Frankie Dettori and Sheikh Mohammeds - and in 2012 we once again had a triumphant season, headlined by Bomar's win in the Swedish Derby (L).

Viviannas Dream - Bonus Winner!

(25/10/2012)

Only a few days after finishing a promising third in the Swedish Winterfavourites behind stable companion Diamant, Viviannas Dream ran over 1100m dirt track at Øvrevoll.

The unusual decision to run him was due to the 10,000£ Racing Post Yearling Bonus, and Viviannas Dream collected the prize by winning by half a length.

Viviannas Dream was bought at the Breeze Up Sale in Baden-Baden in May of this year, and it gives me great pleasure to see both new and established owners being a part of his future.

Another big hit for Diamant

(25/10/2012)

Stall EOS' Diamant (Zamindar) was once again highly impressive when winning the Swedish Winterfavourites over a mile in Stockholm. Ridden by Jan-Erik Neuroth, the 2-y-o talent flew past his rivals down the straight to win by more than five lengths from Annaboda, who just got the better of our promising juvenile Viviannas Dream.

I was really impressed by the way Diamant won his race, the way he travelled to Stockholm, and he came back home as a fresh horse. We're looking into 2013, where he will have a possible aim at the German Derby (Gr.1) in Hamburg.

Diamant and Viviannas Dream in Stockholm

(10/10/2012)

We're sending five horses to run in Stockholm this upcoming Sunday.

Diamant and Viviannas Dream are both running in the Swedish Winterfavourites, where they both got unlucky draws. Viviannas Dream was drawn in stall one, while Diamant will start to the far outside. Both horses are in tremendous shape, and we're expecting great runs from both of them.

Vainqueur is running in the Swedish St. Leger, his one year younger sister Nobel Bride runs in the Breeders' Trophy Juvenile Consolation, and Handsome Hawk is contesting the Listed Songline Classic.

Cassano and Distant Beat made it a double!

(10/10/2012)

Cassano and Distant Beat, both owned and bred by Stall EOS, made it a glorious double in the Norsk Forening for Fullblodsavl Løp last Thursday.

Cassano, ridden by Jan-Erik Neuroth, beat his two year older stable companion by a length, securing 112,500 NOK in prize money for their owner.

Diamant conquers Norwegian Criterium

(28/09/2012)

For the third straight time, Stall EOS' German bred 2-y-o Diamant overcame trouble in running to finish 1st in the Norwegian Criterium over 1370m at Øvrevoll.

The son of Zamindar had plenty to do entering the turn, and he was also out of racing luck when hitting the straight, but after another strong finish he prevailed to beat Over The Ocean in spectacular fashion.

Diamant runs next in the Swedish Winterfavourites on October 14 in Stockholm, where he will tackle a mile for the first time.

Jägersro, 27th September:

2-y-o Rock The Legend ran over a mile at Jägersro for the first time, and she was in for a tough task, leaving stall number one without the necessary speed from the gate. She also needed the room around the last bend, but in fairness ran a good race to finish 4th.

Handsome Hawk was very unlucky in the Listed SFK Jubilee, as he almost went down around the first turn and lost all momentum. Touch Of Hawk finished 5th in the same race, after not being able to tackle the hard surface due to huge amount of rain at Jägersro.

Øvrevoll, 27th September:

2-y-o Viviannas Dream made a strong effort, finishing 2nd in a Racing Post Yearling Bonus Maiden. He just got beat by the shortest possible margin and missed out of the 10,000£ bonus. He wore "side blinders", which proved not to be an advantage, as he didn't get a chance to see winner on his outside before it was too late. He is shaping highly promising though, and will join Diamant in the Swedish Winterfavourites on October 14.

Fredrik Johansson injured

(04/09/2012)

Our first jockey, Fredrik Johansson, will face a spell on the sidelines for between a month and six weeks, due to back problems.

With Fredrik sidelined, we will continue to choose between the best suitable jockeys for our horses in the upcoming events.

Diamant shines in The Heatherwold Cup

(04/09/2012)

Stall EOS’ highly promising juvenile, Diamant (Zamindar), took his second consecutive win, striking in The Heatherwold Cup at home.

Diamant came from a far way back into the straight, but wore down longtime leader Smartinblack close to the line to win by half a length.

His next outing is this Sunday’s Norwegian Criterium, where he will once again run over the shortest of trips, and we look ever more forward to following him over further later on.

Vivianna’s Dream finished 4th behind Diamant in the Heatherwold Cup, after a pleasing effort. He enjoyed the soft ground and was not far beaten, even after being interfered with around the turn, which might have cost him 2nd place.

Quotes from Stockholm Cup Day

(04/09/2012)

Touch Of Hawk (Stockholm Cup Intenational) ran well, but he doesn’t have the same longue capacity as earlier on, which might have something to do with his accident and punctured longue last season. He was interfered with by the winner and Media Hype down the straight, and could have gone closer.

Geordie Iris (Lanwades Stud Stakes) did not approve of the firm ground, and she will now get a rest until October, where she will be campaigned on dirt track.

Kid Creole (Breeders’ Trophy Classic) did never enter the race. He got a long way back from the start and was still last around the final turn. I don’t have any explanation for his poor effort, and he will run next in the Norwegian Breeders’ Prize.

Mill Marin (Amacitalöpning) made another strong performance. She would have gone one better on a softer track, but to finish 2nd beaten by a class filly is not a shame.

Quote from Øvrevoll

(07/09/2012)

Red Colori took a new win for Fredrik Johansson, once again proving he is a real dirt track performer. He has aims at Jägersro during his autumn campaign.

Sir Lando sidelined for rest of season

(04/09/2012)

Stall Perlen’s 5-y-o top performer will miss the rest of 2012 due to an injury sustained while working on the turf at Øvrevoll. Sir Lando was preparing for the Group 3 Marit Sveaas Memorial on August 26 when taking a bad step on the soft track.

Sir Lando twisted his joint and will have to rest throughout the season in order to make a comeback in 2013. It is a great pity, as the horse was in brilliant form ahead of both the Marit Sveaas Memorial and the Group 3 Stockholm Cup, as well as he will miss two Group 1 tilts in Germany.

Two new yearlings from Baden-Baden

(04/09/2012)

Friday the 31st of August I had the privilege to visit Germany’s premier yearling sale in Baden-Baden. The stable string was increased by two yearling fillies.

Lot 79, a daughter of Soldier Of Fortune was purchased by Stall Perlen. The filly is a daughter of the triple Listed winning Acatenango mare Autriche, who is already the dam of Group 2 Doncaster Cup winner Asker Tau and the Listed placed Austrian. The lot was knocked down to our bloodstock agent Peter Doyle for 125,000 euros. Click here for pedigree!

Lot 190, a daughter of champion Shirocco and out of Listed placed Karenina (Second Set), was also bought by Peter Doyle on behalf of Stall EOS for 40,000 euros.

This filly is a half-sister to German Listed winner Königstochter and the Listed placed Königsbote, from the immediate family of Group winners König Concorde, König Turf and König Shuffle. The yearling has already been named Königskrone. Click here for pedigree!

Unfortunately the Danish Yearling Sale took place less than 24 hours after the conclusion in Baden-Baden, which meant I was unable to work my way through both sales. If the planning of the sales had been better, I would have attended both.

At the Danish Yearling Sale, a full brother to Kid Creole was knocked down to Bent Olsen for 150.000 DKK, but since I never had a bid on Kid Creole in two years’ time, I didn’t dare taking my own chance again.

This weekend:

This upcoming Friday:

In The Heatherwold Cup for 2-y-o’s we will run both Diamant and Vivianna’s Dream. Diamant finished brilliantly to break his maiden last time out, while Vivianna’s Dream still has a lot to learn. Both horses have great potential and look like promising classic potential for the future.

This upcoming Sunday, Stockholm:

- Mill Marin is seeking a new big juvenile win in the Amacitalöpning.

- Geordie Iris runs in the Listed Lanwades Stud Stakes over 1950m.

- Touch Of Hawk is our hopeful in the Group 3 Stockholm Cup International. He usually runs a big race at Täby.

- Kid Creole is in great shape before his tilt at the Breeders’ Trophy Classic, though the distance of 1950m will be at a minimum. Despite running well as a 2-y-o and going on to finish 3rd in the Swedish Derby Trial, Kid Creole still remains within my ownership without even a single attempt to buy him.

Quotes from Norwegian Derby Day

The Norwegian Derby (L)

“Bomar finished runner-up behind Old Pal on a surface that clearly wasn’t to his liking. He was already battling with the soft turf at the Derby gallops, but though he couldn’t make use of his tremendous speed, he did fight bravely 2nd”.

“Funinthesand did not have a great run, as he was pulling hard most of the race and never raced freely. The pace wasn’t satisfying, and I believe he missed a better placing”.

The Scandinavian 2-y-o Championships

“Rock The Legend delivered a great performance, winning over a trip way too short for her. She fought on gamely to the end, and there will still be better things coming her way on a better surface. I am particularly looking forward to seeing her on a flat track, and her next outing will be in the Stig Holms Memorial over a mile on dirt in Malmö”.

Marit Sveaas Memorial (Group 3)

“Touch Of Hawk ran way below my expectations, but he never found any racing luck down the straight and kept seeking an opening which didn’t come”.

Glorious Derby Double for Bomar and Funinthesand

(21/08/2012)

Jägersro:

Sunday August 12 we celebrated the 19th Derby Winner in Scandinavia, when Bo Tommy Nygårds Bomar fought down stable companion Funinthesand in the Swedish Derby (L) at Jägersro.

Bomar was at his best, and he showed tremendous speed when still having a lot to do entering the straight. We’re now aiming straight towards the Norwegian Derby (L) on Sunday August 26, and as he has previously shown his best form on good to firm ground, we hope for a fair surface.

Funinthesand was once again proving his place among the best of the bunch, and he fought to the line but was beaten by a horse with more speed. I’m highly excited about his next run in the Norwegian Derby (L), as I’ve always felt he is better on turf than dirt track.

Third raider in Sunday’s Derby will be Magica von Tryll.

Kid Creole finished strongly once again in the Swedish Derby (L), and again he lost ground from the start. He has no problems getting the Derby trip, but will be stepped down in distance for his next outing over 1950m in the Swedish Breeders’ Trophy Classic. He will relish being back on turf and we will hope for soft ground.

Geordie Iris ran in the Listed Margareta Wettermarks Memorial at Jägersro, and the distance was a bit too short for her, as the track also proved fast. She ran well and just lost out of the prize money. Her next target is Sunday’s Listed Erik O Steens Memorial at Øvrevoll.

Vainqueur had his first run on Jägersro’s dirt track in the Swedish Derby Consolation, and though I had expected more from him, he was excused on a surface that clearly didn’t suit him. He will improve once he gets softer ground, and he will now be aimed at both the Swedish and Norwegian St Leger.

Cassano was unlucky in his tilt at the Sofierolöpning, as he didn’t get a clear run and got interfered with in the straight. He is still in great shape and will head to the Swedish Breeders’ Cup next.

Red Colori was our second winner on the Swedish Derby Day. He showed a great bit of speed, and he is a very decent handicapper on the dirt, being perfectly suited by distances between 1200 and 1400m. We will try sending him back to Jägersro for some of this autumn’s better dirt races.

Øvrevoll:

Diamant was bought last year in Baden-Baden in cooperation with our long term agent, Peter Doyle. He lost 10 lengths first time out and still finished strongly to take second place. This time around he broke well and after another powerful finish, he broke his maiden with ease. He is one of our great hopes for next year’s Derby, and the remaining aims for this season are Nowegian Criterium and the Swedish Winterfavourites.

Mill Marin strikes in Eckbo Legats Vandrepokal

(21/08/2012)

August of 2012 has proved to be very valuable for our yard. A great weekend took off on Thursday August 9, when Stall Perlen’s Mill Marin surged late to take the Eckbo Legats Vandrepokal in great style under jockey Jan-Erik Neuroth.

The 2-y-o daughter of Pivotal, bought at Arqana a year ago, ran for the second time and showed great improvement to win by 1½ lengths and take a first prize of 100.000 NOK. She has a remarkable speed and will go on to better things from here. Her next outing is the Amacita for fillies in Stockholm.

Rock The Legend, a first time out winner for Stall E & F, finished unplaced in the same event behind Mill Marin, but she was desperately unlucky and ran out of distance in the end. She runs next in the Scandinavian 2-y-o Championship at home.

65,000 euros - a great investment!

(19/07/2012)

Throughout the years, our stable's speciality has always been picking out yearlings at the big sales around Europe and turning them into champions on the racetrack.

Sir Lando is one of those. He was bought for a mere 65,000€ as a yearling, and has proven a great investment for Stall Perlen, earning more than 2,6 million NOK in 19 career starts and still being on the move forward.

We are only a few weeks away from the first international yearling sales, and we will be present at all sales in partnership with our long-term Irish agent Peter Doyle.

Any interest in the purchase of new yearlings in the fall of 2012 is warmly welcomed - please visit us at the stable at Øvrevoll or contact us directly through phone or email.

Funinthesand looks a big name for Swedish Derby

(19/07/2012)

3-y-o Funinthesand marked himself as a leading player before the Swedish Derby (L) on Sunday August 12, when running away from his opponents in the 2400m Swedish Derby Trial at Jägersro. He couldn't be better over the trip, and he is constantly getting stronger. We're looking very much forward to a tilt at the Swedish Derby (L) now.

Kid Creole finished well from way back to land third place behind Funinthesand, and he finally showed the great capacity I knew he had inside him. We still haven't decided whether to run in the Swedish Derby or The Scandinavian 3-y-o Championships next, but with his new rating of 81 we can go anywhere with him from here. Kid Creole has been for sale since he was purchased to our stable as a yearling, and he looks as exciting as ever.

Sir Lando takes new Group 3

(19/07/2012)

Sir Lando once again proved his superiority amongst fellow Scandinavian raiders in the Group 3 Walter Nilsens Memorial at Øvrevoll, Saturday July 7. After romping home in the Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris last time, he was even more impressive this time around, being last horse off the bridle and eventually drifting away to an uncontested 7 length triump under his regular partner Fredrik Johansson.

Sir Lando will run again on Sunday 22nd of July in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin over 2400m at Hoppegarten, Germany.

Touch Of Hawk ran a credible race behind Sir Lando. Once again the soft surface wasn't to his favour, and we hope for good ground on his next outing, which will be the Lanwades Stud Scandinavian Open Championship over the same distance at Klampenborg on August 5. This will be the first time on Klampenborg for Touch Of Hawk, but hopefully he will tackle the conditions.

3-y-o Cassano was beaten only two lengths in the Breeders' Trophy Mile in Stockholm, but he still ran below his best form on dirt track.

2-y-o Rock The Legend, a half sister to Funinthesand, was an impressive winner first time out at Øvrevoll, even though the distance was an absolute minimum, and the fact that she is not used to "green" competition when working at home. She is now going straight towards bigger things.

Group 3 assignment for Sir Lando and Touch Of Hawk

(05/07/2012)

Our two older elite horses, Sir Lando and Touch Of Hawk, will both run in Saturday's Group 3 Walter Nilsens Memorial at Øvrevoll.

Sir Lando won the Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris on his latest outing, and being in the form of his life, we will once again start aiming him at the top level in Germany after Saturday's effort.

Cassano runs in the Breeders' Trophy Mile in Stockholm on Tuesday. A perfect start to the season was followed by disappointing efforts, but back at his best he should be leading contender.

Bomar spot-on for Swedish Derby after Voter glory

(05/07/2012)

Our classic hopefuls are finally well on the up, and last week we celebrated no less than three 3-y-o winners in Sweden and Norway.

The highlight was Bo Tommy Nygaard's Bomar, who gained favouritism for next month's Swedish Derby, when running away to win the 1730m Voterlöpning at Jägersro. The son of Sir Percy ran way below form to finish sixth in the Norwegian 2000 Guineas, but his on-going hoof problems have now been solved, and he was back at his best to take the Voter by two lengths from English raider Holly Martins.

Bomar and Fredrik Johansson wins the Voterlöpning. Photo: Svensk Galopp / Stefan Olsson.

Funinthesand ran a very credible third in the Voter, staying on at the end. Both Bomar and Funinthesand are entered for the Swedish Derby Trial on July 15, and while Funinthesand looks a definite runner, we haven't made a decision about Bomar yet.

Also at Jägersro, Handsome Hawk won for the first time since the Swedish Derby three years ago. He denied a comeback win for fellow Swedish Derby winner Moe Green in great style, and once again showed that he is a very hard nut to crack when at his best.

Distant Beat was an unlucky third, and Oaks hopeful Magica Von Tryll weren't favouritized by the slow pace in the Swedish Oaks Trial. The race indeed wasn't a trial for stayers, but we're still aiming her at the Oaks later this month and hope for a decent run.

In Norway, Kid Creole and Vainqueur both took their first win of the season. Kid Creole ran over 2160m for the first time and finished strongly, even though he had a lot of ground to make up for entering the straight. His next outing will be the Swedish Derby Trial at Jägersro.

Vainqueur, who was an intended runner in the Danish Derby before being balloted out by the handicapper, proved that he indeed deserved his chance in the race, winning easily under top weight. He as well is entered in the Swedish Derby Trial, but will more likely go for the Scandinavian 3-y-o Championships at home.

Sir Lando stamps his class in Stockholm

(08/06/2012)

Sir Lando (Lando) ran out an impressive win in Tuesday's Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris at Täby Racecourse, Sweden.

Ridden by first jockey Fredrik Johansson, the 5-y-o horse beat last year's Norwegian Triple Crown winner, Without Fear, by 5½ lengths, with dual Group 3 winner Bank Of Burden back in third.

Sir Lando's stable companion, Touch Of Hawk (Hawk Wing), finished fifth, just behind multiple black type winner Tertullus.

Quotes from this weeks racing:

"Sir Lando stamped his class, and this win was quite a relief, since we've always knew he was a top performer. He is engaged in both the Group 3 Hansa-Preis in Hamburg and the Group 3 Walter Nilsens Memorial at home, but we will let the surface at Øvrevoll decide where he goes next".

"Touch Of Hawk didn't like the ground, and he will prefer a faster surface next time around. That said, he ran a great race in only his second outing this term, and he will definitely be aimed at Walter Nilsens Memorial at home."

"La Zona finished second in the Listed Bloomers' Vase behind old rival Entangle. She ran another good race, but the track proved too soft and sticky for her. Her next outing will be at home in the Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes".

"Cassano finished 5th in the Swedish 2000 Guineas. He ran well despite his two close coupled races. He met some interference in the straight, which might have cost him third place. We will skip the Danish Derby and move straight back on the Jägersro dirt track for Voterlöpning in three weeks time".

"Vainqueur was scratched in the due to the race being moved from turf to dirt. Vainqueur already proved that the dirt wasn't to his favour, and we decided to take him out. This causes much frustration, as the particular race was his last chance to higher his handicap and get a race under his belt before the Danish Derby on June 24. I feel that Täby Racecourse took this opportunity away from us, and it is incredible that we for the second time around misses an opportunity to run on turf at this track.

Since Scandinavia has chosen to rank all horses for their classic and high profile races, one should at least expect that the changing of surface in a trial race couldn't interfere with the horse's chance of getting into the main races. Vainqueur was lowered one kilo after his run on dirt in the Guineas Trial, and now he never got the chance to higher his rating on turf.

This means we will have to sit tight and wait for the outcome next Friday, when Klampenborg declare for the Danish Derby. The Danish Derby has always been the main target for Vainqueur, and the most frustrating part is that the horse has been working bullets and seems extremely well".

Øvrevoll, 7th of June

"3-y-o T-Bag was 2nd in a maiden after leading most of the way. He needed a bit of routine out in front, and got beat on the line. I'm very satisfied by the way he ran, and look forward to his next outing".

"Magica Von Tryll met interference in the straight, and was short of room in more than one occasion. She was left with too much to do, but still closed very well for home, and this was a promising first start of the season. She is bred to stay, and the distance was a minimum. Though we might have to target her at the Norwegian 1000 Guineas in order to get her handicapped for the Swedish Oaks".

Bomar and Funinthesand in Norwegian 2000 Guineas

(08/06/2012)

We're looking much forward to the 14th of June, where classic hopes Bomar (Sir Percy) and Funinthesand (Footstepsinthesand) set sail for the Norwegian 2000 Guineas, run over a mile at Øvrevoll. Both horses are in top shape after good prep races, and we're hopeful for two strong performances in top class company.

Bomar's big target is the Group 1 German Derby in Hamburg on July 1st, but a cracked hoof made us decide to run at home instead of heading to the Derby Trial in Bremen. Hopefully Bomar will be convincing enough in the Norwegian 2000 Guineas to let us have a crack at the Derby in Hamburg.

Promising Breeze Up horse for sale

(30/05/2012)

Our Bloodstock Agent, Mr Peter Doyle, recently bought a highly interesting 2-y-o bay colt at the Breeze Ups. The colt will head to our stable in Norway and is for sale in five shares.

He is by the remarkable stallion Oasis Dream (Green Desert), sire of this weekend's Irish 2000 Guineas (Group 1) winner Power, and out of the Indian Ridge mare Vivianna, who was a winner at 3 in France.

The colt is a half brother to Diamond Viva, winner of the Group 2 Cashcall Mile Invitational Stakes and placed 3rd in the Group 1 Gamely Stakes, both at Hollywood Park in Los Angeles, California.

The 2-y-o is qualified for the Racing Post Yearling Bonus of 10,000£ sterling if he wins a Bonus race. He is a big, strong horse, who looks to have a lot of classic potential as a 3-y-o, and he has been supplemented to the Swedish Derby Series of 2013.

Round-up

(30/05/2012)

We are now a few weeks into the main Scandinavian racing season, and as always, we've had a bunch of good runs, and a few disappointments.

LA ZONA ran a cracking race in the Group 3 Pramms Memorial at Jägersro. It was her seasonal reappearance against sharp company, and the lack of solid pace did her no favours. She finished well to take 5th, and I believe this was a splendid start to her 2012 campaign. She runs next in the Listed Bloomer's Vase at Täby no Tuesday June 5.

TOUCH OF HAWK also ran at Jägersro on Pramms Memorial Day, but he was the victim of a crucially slow pace. It turned out into a sprinting contest, and that kind of running style has never suited Touch Of Hawk. He has now got a race under his belt, and next outing will be the Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris at Täby on Tuesday June 5.

GEORDIE IRIS won with great ease in the Jockeyklubbens Stolöpning over a mile at Täby. She was ridden held up by Fredrik Johansson, and bursted past her opponents in the straight. This was a strong effort, and she will be worth noting for future assignments at distances between 1600 and 2400 metres on both turf and dirt.

BOMAR should have had his seasonal debut on the 17th of May, but he missed the race due to a crack in his hoof. He is declared to run on Thursday 31st of May at Øvrevoll, but will only run if track gets sufficient rain. Bomar still holds an entry in the Group 1 German Derby in Hamburg, and we still have to decide whether to go for a Derby Trial in Bremen or stay at home to run in the Norwegian 2000 Guineas.

SIR LANDO ran against Group company in Baden-Baden. He missed the break from stall one, and lost all winning chances as the pace was tough on the fast ground. He was also badly hampered by runner-up Ovambo Queen approaching the straight, and this should be a race easy to forget. Sir Lando runs again in the Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris at Täby on June 5.

VAINQUEUR was a big disappointment in his first start of the season at Täby. The race was run on dirt, and he never got into the race. He will run over 2400m on turf at Täby on Tuesday June 5, and hopefully he will show us the potential of a horse who can compete in the Danish Derby on June 24.

Stable form on the rise in head of big week

(11/05/2012)

We're approaching the first big week in the Scandinavian fixture list.

Sunday May 13 happens in Stockholm. Last year's Norwegian Oaks winner, Geordie Iris (Fredrik Johansson), runs in Jockeyklubbens Stolöpning, 3-y-o Vainqueur (Fredrik Johansson) runs in a trial for the Swedish 2000 Guineas, Handsome Hawk (Fredrik Johansson) runs in Upplandslöpning ahead of Stockholms Stora Pris (Gr.3), and finally Simian (Fredrik Johansson) is in the Sprint Trial for  Täby  Vårsprint.

Tuesday May 15 is Pramms Memorial Day at Jägersro. The highligt, of course, is Pramms Memorial (Gr.3) over 1730m dirt track. We're represented by Stall Perlen's La Zona (Fredrik Johansson), who holds the official track record over the actual distance.

This is first time out for La Zona, and as the rest of our yard's horses, she desperately needs a run  under  her belt. She's going into a rough fight with the boys and running against prime horses from both France, Germany and England in what is called the best race to ever have been staged at Jägersro.

Also running on Pramms night is Touch Of Hawk (Lennart Hammer), who is favourite to land his trial for Stockholms Stora Pris (Gr.3).

Thursday May 17 is National Day in Norway. We're looking greatly forward to the season reappearances by top 3-y-o's Bomar (Fredrik Johansson) and Funinthesand (David Delgado), who runs against each other in an allowance on turf. This race will help to decide the future path for both horses, as Bomar holds entries in both Germany and the Norwegian 2000 Guineas. Funinthesand is also entered in the latter.

Finally, the week concludes on Sunday May 20 in Baden-Baden, where Sir Lando (Fredrik Johansson) will take on a star cast, probably headed by last year's Arc winner Danedream, in a  Group 2. Sir Lando had a promising reappearance in Germany when third in the Group 3 Gerling-Preis, and he is expected to come on a lot  for the run.

Still time to catch a ready to run 2-y-o!

(11/05/2012)

I will attend the season's last European Breeze Up Sale in Baden-Baden on Friday May 18th.

There is still a chance to catch a ready to run 2-y-o for the upcoming juvenile season - please contact me, if you're interested in knowing more about becoming an owner in our yard.

Juvenile form looks solid for Kid Creole

(11/05/2012)

Our Danish bred Kid Creole (Academy Award), who himself is a son of a Cajun Cadet half sister to Funny Legend, has taken some time to get into stride this spring, but  he is definitely on the up and will be ready for action shortly.

Meanwhile, the form of his 2-y-o campaign is sky rocketing with horses like Darcy and The Kicker both having won their seasonal debuts. Darcy and The Kicker are sharing favouritism for the upcoming Danish 2000 Guineas, and judged by last season's form, Kid Creole is not far away from the two classic candidates.

Next run for Kid Creole will be at  home on May 24th, his first run on turf this season, and he will then be aimed straight towards the Swedish 2000 Guineas in Stockholm. Kid Creole is still for sale within our stable.

Cassano sweeps to easy win in "Derbydrömmen"

(11/05/2012)

3-y-o stable star Cassano (Kheleyf) left a strong impression in his seasonal debut at Jägersro on May 8. Owned and bred by Stall EOS, Cassano easily took over the lead approaching the straight, and later fought off the challenge from home raider Lake Cooloola to win "Derbydrömmen" - The Derby Dream - by a comfortable length.

Ridden by our stable's first jockey Fredrik Johansson, Cassano earned 200.000 SEK, and  brought his total earnings up to app. 800.000 SEK.

Next aim for Cassano will be the Lyches Memorial at home on May 31st. Sadly, the date of the race is clearly misjudged by the racing authorities in Norway, as it is held just a week prior to the Swedish 2000 Guineas in Stockholm. We will choose to run Cassano in Lyches Memorial instead of travelling to Sweden, but with a better scheme, he could  have run both races. Though, at this point, we're still not entirely ruling out a run in the Swedish 2000 Guineas.

Cassano is also entered, and highest rated, in the Danish Derby on Sunday June 24. A race run over 2400m, and his next run in the  Lyches Memorial over 1980m will give us a pointer to his staying abilities.

For those who saw Cassano, and Sunday's second stable winner, Vivere Cosi, before their races, it was clear that our horses have not yet really come into their own, and the fact both horses won is a huge credit to their ability.

Vivere Cosi, also smartly ridden by Fredrik Johansson, fought down last year's Swedish St. Leger winner, Lucky Lad, in a tight finish to take his second career win. Vivere Cosi was hit  by injury last season, but this is a horse with huge improvement left, and he will go on to even better things from here.

Spring approaches!

(24/02/2012)

The Norwegian winter proved mild and gentle, leaving our training conditions very fine. Spring is approaching, and we're preparing for our first runners to hit the track in April, where Sir Lando will make another tilt in Germany.

In addition to our first jockey Fredrik Johansson, we have assigned a new race rider to our stable - David Delgado - with whom we've already have a great working relationship from our former shuttle yard in Chantilly.

Our 3-y-olds have wintered really well, and our juveniles have settled nicely at Øvrevoll. They look a very strong team of individuals. I am very pleased of their development, though our stable still have a lack of 2-y-o colts, which is why I will be present at the upcoming European Breeze Up-sales this spring, starting with the Goffs Ready To Run Sale at Kempton Park, London, April 3rd.

We still have room for horses of great potential, and would like to welcome any new owners to the stable.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

(01/01/2012)

We wish you all a very happy New Year 2012.

It is our aim to get back on top of the Scandinavian Trainer's Board, and looking at the splendid material within our yard, we're very confident ahead of the upcoming racing season.

Fredrik Johansson is our 1st jockey in 2012

(26/11/2011)

We are pleased to announce the our year long relationship with jockey Fredrik Johansson has been reestablished with an agreement for the 2012 season.

Fredrik came back from two serious injuries to end 2011 on an absolute high, and partnering both Bomar and La Zona to big wins for us at Jägersro on November 13th.

Fredrik Johansson will continue as the stable's first jockey in races, and he will be riding out from both our head quarter in Oslo, as well as or new satellite stable in Stockholm.

With the agreement for 2012, we feel even more well prepared for the year to come, as we have now secured the best jockey available for both our existing customers and anyone who would like to join our stable in the near future.

Satellite stable to launch in Stockholm - Head Quarter maintained at Øvrevoll

(23/11/2011)

Due to the system of Norwegian customs, my plan of moving 17 horses out of Norway to a satellite in Sweden and continue my training career on a Swedish license, has resulted in some changes.

Moving my whole yard to Sweden and exchanging my license would sadly bring far too big a cost to the stable’s owners, which is why I’ve made the decision to keep my head quarter at Øvrevoll Racecourse and my Norwegian trainer’s license.

Yet I can announce that Täby Racecourse and I have agreed for a satellite stable to open in Stockholm, and we will now operate from both locations. The big advantage of a satellite stable at Täby Racecourse is of course that we will now be able to take advantage of the far higher amount of races in Sweden, without having to travel in and out of Oslo each time.

Among the facilities at Täby are the presence of a dirt and turf track, as well as the possibility to run over hurdles and steeples.

I myself will commute between Oslo and Stockholm, and I will look greatly forward to welcoming new clients at the new satellite stable at Täby Racecourse from March 2012.

Bomar and La Zona ended season on a high at Jägersro

(23/11/2011)

BOMAR, Derby Serien Juvenile Stayer, 1600m dirt, 1 of 5:
Bomar scored by 6 lengths and showed that the surface at Jägersro suits him perfectly. The step up in distance next year will definitely be to his big advantage. He remains one of the highly regarded classic prospects in the yard.

LA ZONA, Jockeyklubbens Avelslöpning (L), 2400m dirt, 1 of 6:
La Zona ran another cracking race on the dirt. She showed her class by never being off the bridle, still scoring by six lengths. This was the end of another remarkable season, and she will stay in training next year.

SADDLE THE STORM, Sibenikhandicap, 1600m dirt, 2 of 9:
He made another good performance after once again being left behind from the gate. He suffered from a low pace this time, but still managed to close very well for 2nd.

SIMIAN, Malmö Hösthandicap, 1200m dirt, 3 of 10:
He was in good form and jumped out well, but unfortunately he was pulled a bit too much and lost valuable lengths at the back stretch. Still he managed to stay on strongly, finishing best of all to take third against top competition.

VIVERE COSI, Hurricanelöpning, 2650m dirt, 6 of 10:
Didn't get the best of trips and was stopped around the final turn. Two trips to Malmö within one week has not been optimal, and he definitely wasn't at his best this time.

SILVANI, Silence Is Blisslöpning, 1600m, 6 of 11:
He didn't handle the surface as hoped, and he seems better at the deeper dirt track at home. The distance also proved too short for him and he was well excused.

Three out of three in Malmö:
Cassano stamps his class in Swedish Criterium

(07/11/2011)

Cassano, a top class juvenile owned and bred by Stall EOS, proved far too good for his opponents in Sunday's Swedish Criterium, romping to a 3½ length win under Fredrik Johansson.

Cassano was settled just behind the pace and could easily wear down front runner Silvertown as the field hit the straight. He won with something in hand and will be a great asset for the yard in his classic campaign next season. He will now go to winter training upon a strong juvenile campaign.

Our three horses going to Sweden for Sunday's Criterium Meeting at Jägersro all came out as winners.

VIVERE COSI, a lightly raced 3-y-o colt by Hawk Wing, went very well on his first outing since this spring, and he will come on plenty for his next job this Sunday in the Hurricanelöpning over 2650m at the same track and surface. Vivere Cosi is still for sale.

SADDLE THE STORM didn't jump from the stalls and lost several lengths, but an elegant ride from Fredrik Johansson and an overpaced race made him fly home towards the end, and he definitely showed his best form this term. Saddle The Storm has had trouble coping with the track at Øvrevoll, but conditions were perfect for him this time at Jägersro.

Training business to continue in Sweden

(07/11/2011)

After a period of thorough contemplation, I have decided to stay and continue my training business within Scandinavia, and Sweden is my preferred choice of country.

17 horses already included in our yard will follow to the new facilities, though I have still not decided if we move towards Täby in Stockholm or Jägersro in Malmö. These 17 horses all have many big assignments during their 2012 campaign all over Scandinavia, and therefore it is only natural that we want to stay close to the action.

At this point I have spoken to connections in both Stockholm and Malmö, and will now be looking forward to receiving an offer for a new stable. This also means that the original plan of sending horses to Germany has now been terminated.

Cassano ready for a tilt at the Swedish Criterium

(03/11/2011)

Top Norwegian bred juvenile, Cassano, will aim at his fourth win of the season and a big race hattrick when running in Sunday's Swedish Criterium over 1730 metres dirt track at Jägersro in Sweden.

Cassano, winner of this years Norsk Rikstoto Oppdrettsløp and Norwegian 2-y-o Championship at home, will face eight rivals in his first ever run on Jägersro's dirt track. Although he has run well on the dirt at both Täby and Øvrevoll, and the extra distance should also be to his great advantage.

Also on Sunday, the stable is running yet lightly raced Vivere Cosi in a handicap for 3-y-o's. This will be his first outing since finishing just 5½ lengths behind at the time German Derby favourite Arrigo in Germany.  4-y-o Saddle The Storm is also running in good company in a handicap over 1730 metres. All three of our runners on Sunday will be ridden by Fredrik Johansson.

New big win for Cassano

(28/10/2011)

Cassano, owned and bred by Stall EOS, took his second big win during his juvenile campaign when slamming his opponents by 3½ lengths in the Norwegian 2-y-o Championship over a mile on Thursday night.

Cassano was ridden by Fredrik Johansson and earned 75.000 NOK. The son of Kheleyf is still getting better for every outing, and he certainly has a big future ahead of him in the restricted races for Scandinavian- and Norwegian breds.

On the same Thursday night card, same owner and breeder's 3-y-o Silvano finished second in a maiden over 1750 metres dirt track.

A new challenge!

(14/10/2011)

After 40 years as a professional trainer at Øvrevoll, I have decided to move my business out of Norway and search elsewhere for a continued career.

There are several reasons to this decision, but the main issue has been the Norwegian government’s ongoing lack of commitment to the racing industry, which during the past 10 years has resulted in a downward spiral of owners, breeders and racehorses.

Norway is not a part of the European Union, and the country has never been close to a mutual Scandinavian corporation regarding the import and export of horses. Importing a horse to Norway is 25% more expensive than to Sweden or Denmark, and the training fees are higher due to extreme tax prices on feed - both caused by government tax rules that definitely prevent many potential owners from buying racehorses.

The tax laws in both Sweden and Denmark give horse owners the chance of deducting VAT from all invoices involving their racehorses, but after 12 years of negotiation, we have not yet come to a solution in Norway, and at present we don’t even seem to be an inch closer than we were at the end of the old millennium.

As a result of the above, the tendency through the past years proves that getting new clients in Norway is ever harder, and even though I’ve always had a group of loyal owners, I find it difficult to spot future replacements. A few years ago, Stall Perlen moved their residency to France, which has meant that their interest in Norwegian racing and shopping for yearlings is not as great as earlier, and they have as well chosen to send horses in training in France.

Instead of trying to find solutions to our government issues, I will rather leave Norway now, and seek for a new location to continue my training business.

It is a fact that Stall Perlen’s horses are moving out of Norway, and they will stay under my care no matter of the final destination. Unfortunately the move out of Norway means that my long term and very successful corporation with Stall E&F will come to an end because of social matters and the need to be close to their horses and the stable at Øvrevoll. It is with sadness I leave behind a special horse like Touch Of Hawk and a horse with as huge a future as Funinthesand. I am sure that Funny Legend will continue producing top horses, and it is a big loss to no longer being a part of this relationship.

So what does the future bring?

The stable at Øvrevoll Racecourse will be left empty on the 1st of December this year, and all the horses continuing within my care will move straight to Krefeld, Germany, where they will start winter training with my long term affiliate Erika Mäder.

This will result in the sufficient time and opportunity to contemplate about the future. Through several years I’ve had various offers to train in my native Germany, and spending four winters in Chantilly has made me consider France. But with all the great races and prize money throughout Scandinavia, it is definitely interesting to evaluate opportunities in Sweden and Denmark as well.

As a note I would like to point out, that the recent years of decline within German horse racing is a clear proof that you cannot take the industry’s horse owners for granted. The lack of a good environment and experiences for owners will make the number of horses fall drastically, and this has been a catastrophe for German racing during the past 10 years.

In this matter, Scandinavia must take better care of their present owners and make a much stronger effort to introduce new customers to the industry. We cannot let everything be about "a higher turnover", because we will eventually end up with nothing to bet upon.

Finally, I would like to thank Øvrevoll Racecourse for a long and successful companionship throughout 40 years. I came to Oslo 50 years ago, and even though I’m born in Germany, I consider Norway my home.

Kid Creole's form looks ever stronger

(11/10/2011)

Stable juvenile Kid Creole got a new credible boost to his form, when Danish trained The Kicker won the Breeders' Trophy Juvenile on Sunday. Kid Creole was a fast finishing 3rd in the Danish Auction Race on September 4th, closing strongly on The Kicker who was just in front of him on the line. The Kicker has since run 2nd in the Danish Criterium and now a recent Breeders' Trophy-winner.

Kid Creole is aiming at the Swedish Criterium in November, and he is still for sale.

Comments from Täby, Sunday October 9th

(11/10/2011)

LA ZONA, Lanwades Stud Stakes (L), 1600m turf, 1 of 5:
She thrived on the soft ground, and even though she lost a shoe during the race, she ran a great race to win in an excellent time. She has one more assignment left this year and will run in the Listed JK Avelslöpning over 2400 metres at Jägersron on November 13.

CASSANO, Breeders' Trophy Juvenile, 1350m dirt, 3 of 14:
This was his first run on the dirt, and he wasn't easy to get going due to the huge amount of kick back. He finished very strongly, but had too much to do. It was a good race and he ran well. Next stop will be the Norwegian Championship on dirt, followed by a tilt at the Swedish Criterium.

TOUCH OF HAWK, Songline Classic (L), 2000m dirt, 3 of 9:
He ran another great race, only beaten by two top horses. He is definitely better on turf, which is why I'm happy about the result. He's had a troubled season and will now rest for the year.

BOMAR, Vinterfavoriternas Pris, 1600m turf, 2 of 15:
He didn't handle the dirt in the beginning, got a wide turn into the straight and was left with too much to do. Though he was only beaten a neck and was highly approved. He might have a crack at the Juvenile Mile on Jägersro next.

FUNINTHESAND, Vinterfavoriternas Pris, 1600m turf, 4 of 15:
Proved a lot braver wearing cheek pieces. He is still lacking routine, but ran on very well in the end and was beaten less than two lengths. He won't run again this year.

VAINQUEUR, Vinterfavoriternas Pris, 1600m turf, 14 of 15:
Couldn't at all handle the opening dirt or the cross over to the turf. He was rearing the field at all time, and never got into contention. Obviously he is a lot better than what he showed here.

Comments from Champions Day in Stockholm

(12/09/2011)

LA ZONA, Tattersalls Nickes Memorial (L), 1600m dirt track, 4 of 11:
She ran a good race against the colts, but was left wanting of speed over too sharp a distance.

GEORDIE IRIS: Coolmore Matchmaker Stakes (L), 1950m turf, 6 of 8:
She was never suited by the ground and came home with a slight injury, which meant she never really stretched herself in the race.

SIR LANDO: Stockholm Cup International (Gr.3), 2400m turf, 4 of 12:
Lacked a bit of spirit and got too far behind. He was hit by an allergic reaction which broke out two days after the race.

HANDSOME HAWK: Stockholm Cup International (Gr.3), 2400m turf, 9 of 12:
Set the pace in the race, which is not to his liking. We tried to make a hard pace for Sir Lando, and he is excused for not performing at his best.

Branch stable to be launched in Stockholm!

(31/08/2011)

I’m very happy to announce the launch of our new branch stable at Täby Racecourse in Stockholm, Sweden.

As soon as accommodation for our stable staff has been organized, our elite horses and juveniles will shuttle to Stockholm for an autumn campaign mainly at Täby and Jägersro.

If we find the conditions at Täby Racecourse satisfying, it is highly likely that we will develop our Stockholm unit, and at the same time be looking towards increasing the amount of Swedish customers.

The sales season is upon us, and already this upcoming Friday, 2nd of September, I’m attending the Yearling Sale at Baden-Baden, Germany. Why not join our stable this year by purchasing an international yearling with the potential of becoming next generation’s classic winner?

You’re always welcome to contact me for information on joining the stable, the purchase of a yearling or for further information about our new stable in Stockholm.

Splendid results on Derby Day!

(29/08/2011)

The current form progress of our yard's horses was terrifically shown on Sunday 28th August, the Norwegian Derby Day in Oslo.

Big race wins for Stall Perlen's 2-y-o home bred Vainqueur (Dalakhani) in the Scandinavian 2-y-o Championship and 5-y-o La Zona (Singspiel) in the Listed Erik O Steens Memorial were among highlights, which also included Sir Lando's narrow defeat in the Group 3 Marit Sveaas Memorial and both Geordie Iris and Apilado picking up prizes at Listed level.

Vainqueur (Fredrik Johansson) won the Scandinavian 2-y-o Championship over 1370 meters, beating stable companion Cassano (Jan-Erik Neuroth). Both horses have bright futures ahead of them, being able to run in the Scandinavian classics for home breds. Vainqueur holds entries in both the Norwegian Criterium and Swedish Winterfavourites, and he could as well be aimed for the Swedish Criterium on dirt.

Cassano has plenty of options, and while both the Norwegian and Swedish Criterium is on the agenda, the Swedish Breeders' Trophy Juvenile is an obvious task.

La Zona took her second Listed win within 14 days, and she both showed her marvellous capacity and her thrilling way of adapting to different distances and surfaces. Having won in new track record time over 1730 meters on dirt last time, she now won over 2400 meters on heavy turf. La Zona holds an entry in both the Listed Nickes Memorial and Listed Coolmore Matchmaker Stakes (L) on September 11 in Stockholm, and we won't make any decision about which race to choose until we're closer to the declaration date.

Oaks heroine Geordie Iris finished 5th behind La Zona. She failed to stay the distance on the soft ground, but still managed to pick up prize money. She will head to the Listed Coolmore Matchmaker Stakes in Stockholm next.

Sir Lando was once again asked to finish from a position way back in the field in the Group 3 Marit Sveaas Memorial, and he was just denied on the line by Entangle. He is far better than a regular Group 3 horse, and we're aiming him at the Stockholm Cup International (Gr.3) on September 11. Same race is on the agenda for Handsome Hawk, who had an unlucky trip on Sunday and got struck on his hind leg during the race.

Our Derby runner Apilado finished a respectable 5th over a distance that seems slightly too far, and he came home very tired. He fought all the way to the line and gave all he had in him to get the last prize, and we're overall satisfied with his effort. We will now look around for races run on dirt track for his next outings.

Sales time!

(17/08/2011)

The sales season is straight ahead of us, and during the next couple of months we will be present at the major European sales houses, looking for the next generation of champions.

First up is the French Yearling Sale at Arqana, Deauville, from 22nd to 25th of August, thereafter the German Yearling Sale in Baden-Baden on the 2nd of September. We are also planning to attend the Goffs Orby Sale from 27th to 29th of September and the October Yearling Sale in Newmarket.

If you would like to join our stable as a horse owner, now is a good time to begin the adventure! Please contact us for more information about the upcoming sales.

Horses for sale are ready to run!

(17/08/2011)

After a troublesome spring and summer, our yard is finally on top again with winners coming out every week. We've already saddled three high class juvenile winners in the likes of Cassano, Bomar and Funinthesand - the latter beating another high profile 2-y-o in stable companion Vainqueur - a statistic that gives us high hopes for our upcoming debutants.

Thursday night - August 18 - Danish bred Kid Creole (Academy Award) is making his race course debut in a 1170m maiden on turf. Kid Creole is out of Creole Legend, a former big race winner for our yard, and herself a half sister til multiple Black Type winner Funny Legend. Kid Creole is still for sale within the stable and holds an entry for the Danish Auction Race on September 4 with a first prize of 250.000 Danish Kroner.

Another juvenile soon ready for action is German bred Magica Von Tryll, a daughter of multiple champion sire Lomitas out of female family. Lomitas is still firing all over the world, being the sire of recent German Group 1 winner Danedream and American Stakes winner Sanagas, who took the Listed John Call Stakes at Saratoga. In the same race, Lomitas was also the broodmare sire of runner-up Center Divider.

Magica Von Tryll is also for sale within the stable. Please contact Wido Neuroth for more information.

Alyshakeys retired due to injury

(17/08/2011)

Group 3 winner Alyshakeys has run her last race after suffering a career ending injury. The 4-y-o daughter of Sendawar has suffered a knee fracture and will retire to stud on top of a splendid career winning 8 races and 1,8 million Swedish Kroner. She won all five of her starts as a juvenile and brought home the Group 3 Polar Cup against older males last season. She also finished second to Alcohuaz in last years Listed Täby Open Sprint Championship and this year's Listed Täby Vårsprint.

La Zona wins Listed in new track record

(14/08/2011)

La Zona was back to her game and proved way to powerful for her opponents in the Listed Margareta Wettermarks Memorial over 1730m at Jägersro on Swedish Derby Day. The daughter of Singspiel, owned by Stall Perlen, took an easy lead before the last turn and kept going away to hit the line in a stunning new track record time of 1.10,4.

La Zona was ridden by Jan-Erik Neuroth, who on the same card also partnered the stable's Walinda to a narrow defeat in the Swedish Derby Consolation and Apilado to finish 7th in the Listed Swedish Derby.

Classic winner for Mr William P. Drew

(10/08/2011)

The first classic win of the 2011 season was a reality when Geordie Iris easily beat her opponents 3½ lengths in the Norwegian Oaks at Øvrevoll. The daughter of Elusive City is owner internationally by Mr William P. Drew, and this was her second win since arrving with us in Norway. She was previously campaigned by Richard Hannon in the UK, where she took three straight wins before going abroad.

Geordie Iris was ridden by stable jockey Jan-Erik Neuroth, for whom this was a second Classic career win.

Earlier in the card, Jan-Erik Neuroth rode Stall EOS' highly promising 2-y-o Cassano to an impressive victory in an allowance race for juveniles, beating previous winner Cincinnatus by 4½ lenghts over 6 furlongs on turf.

Cassano is also bred by Stall EOS. He is by Kheleyf and out of the Selkirk mare Chiquette - a previous winner of the Norwegian Criterium in our care. He will surely go on to greater things and will be campaigned at the juvenile highlights throughout the season.

Racing Post Yearling Bonus Win for Bomar

(04/08/2011)

After a very unlucky racecourse debut in Norway, our two year old son of Sir Percy - Bomar - picked up one of Scandinavia's 10 Racing Post Yearling Bonuses last Sunday in Gothenburg.

Ridden by Jan-Erik Neuroth, Bomar accelerated to a comfortable win and took the additional Racing Post Yearling Bonus prize of 10.000£ sterling for owner Bo Tommy Nygård.

Bomar was bought for 33,000 guineas at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale last year, and he has developed exactly as we had hoped. He is still getting stronger, and we're hopeful to see him among the strong candidates for next year's Norwegian Derby (L).

Sir Lando sixth in German Group 1 company

(04/08/2011)

Sir Lando had yet another unfortunate race on his latest outing in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin. Ridden behind the pace, he found no room in the straight could never quicken enough to get into contention.

The race was won by 3-y-o Danedream by a wide margin of five lengths, but Sir Lando kept on strongly towards the end and was only beaten a lenght from German Horse Of The Year, Scalo, for second place.

Sir Lando is still holding a German Group 1 entry, but it is highly likely that he will come back to Norway to run in the Group 3 Marit Sveaas Memorial on Norwegian Derby Day on August 27th.

Do we have to wait for an accident before a regulation of whip rules in Norway?

(08/07/2011)

Recent episodes during races at Øvrevoll have made me raise the above question. The current whip rules in Norway will eventually become shattering for horse racing in this country. That our jockeys are not allowed to use the whip has already resulted in various disasters that neither trainers, owners, jockeys and especially our horses can be served with.

A recent example is the debut of our 2-y-o Bomar, who ran in a Racing Post Yearling Bonus race on June 30. Bomar was interfered with by another horse coming out of the gates. An incident that could easily have been prevented, if the jockey had just used the whip to correct the horse.

The big problem here is, that no jockey dares to use the whip in any case, as this will easily be misinterpreted as a way of getting the horse to go forward and result in a fine or suspension. So what are we waiting for? An accident that injures a jockey or a horse?

As the whip is no longer allowed, jockeys are riding rougher and all means are used to make up for the lack of whip. Especially the South American jockeys are much rougher than in the past.

To conclude the issue, I believe the rules should be changed again, bringing the whip back in all races to give the jockeys the chance to steer their horses around the tights bends at Øvrevoll. The race course stewards must have the authority to judge if the whip is used to regulate the horses or to make them go forward.

Another question has to be raised about the use of “outer rim” shoes. Should Scandinavia continue the use of these shoes on our race tracks? There’s a huge increase in horses getting injured because our jockeys go to close on each other without taking care. A solution to this problem would be to change from “outer rim” to Queen’s Plate shoes, which is the regular brand outside of Scandinavia.

Walinda won Swedish Oaks Trial

(08/07/2011)

Walinda is now spot on for the Swedish Oaks on July 23rd after a comfortable 3½ length win in the Swedish Oaks Trial on Jägersro. Ridden by Jan-Erik Neuroth, Walinda easily turned down favourite Ride For Roses, while stable companion Silvani (Fernando Diaz) finished fourth after an unlucky race.

Walinda is owned by Stall Moreno, B. Stahl and T. Nygård. This was her first career win in five starts, but she is still very much on the move forward, and we’re looking forward to running both her and Silvani in the Swedish Oaks.

Alyshakeys coming back from injury

(08/07/2011)

Our plans for top sprinter Alyshakeys were unfortunately put on hold after her recent run in Norsk Jockeyklubs Sprintløp (L) at Øvrevoll. Alyshakeys came back lame after being hit by a competitor during the race and losing a hind shoe. She was hit on her tendon as well, which could have meant a career ending injury, but luckily the cut was only superficial.

Alyshakeys should have run during the German Derby Week in Hamburg, a race that – looking in the review mirror – would have seen her with a top chance. The 4-y-o filly is doing better again, and will continue her aim at the top sprinting races throughout the season.

Sir Lando third in Hamburg

(08/07/2011)

Stable star Sir Lando continues his strike of top results at international level. His latest run resulted in a third place in the Group 2 Grosser Hansa-Preis over 2400m in Hamburg. Ridden by Eddie Ahern, Sir Lando was well placed throughout the race, but the field went at a very slow pace, which eventually saw Sir Lando outpaced when they turned for home. He managed to fight back, but the lack of early pace clearly didn’t suit him, and we expect greater things from the 4-y-o going further.

Appel Au Maitre suffers career ending injury

(14/06/2011)

Multiple Scandinavian Classic and Group Winner Appel Au Maitre has immediately ended his racing career after suffering a fracture in his near fore during a race course work out. Appel Au Maitre will now undergo surgery, but we have decided not to run him again.

Eventually we will be looking for a place for Appel Au Maitre to continue his career at stud, and we’re looking forward to planning his future and receiving applications from interested parties.

Appel Au Maitre, a 7-y-o chestnut colt by Starborough – Rotina (Crystal Glitters), is Scandinavia’s richest race horse through all times. He was Undefeated Champion 2-y-o and Dual Derby Winner and Group 3 Winner at three. He managed to progress all the way throughout his career, winning five Group 3’s in Germany, Sweden and Norway. Furthermore he was placed several times in international Pattern company, including 2nd in the Group 1 Rheinland Pokal and the most important German Derby Trial – the Group 2 Union-Rennen. He finished 3rd in the Group 1 Deutschland-Preis and 4th in the Group 1 German Derby.

Unfortunately Appel Au Maitre’s 2010 campaign was spoiled due to allergic reactions, but he still managed to win the Group 3 Grand Prix Premiere in Cologne, beating stable companion Touch Of Hawk by a neck. Fredrik Johansson was Appel Au Maitre’s regular rider and Jan-Erik Neuroth his trusted handler. They should both receive extraordinary credit for the horse’s marvelous racing career.

Appel Au Maitre was bought as a yearling in Deauville for 150,000€. He was recommended by bloodstock agent Peter J. Doyle, and won nearly eight million Norwegian Kroner – definitely a fantastic purchase.

I have had the joy and honour to train a horse with a great temperament, toughness and a genuine will to win. A horse that gained international respect, and he will be greatly missed in our yard.

Touch Of Hawk out for rest of season

(11/06/2011)

Stable star Touch Of Hawk, who was awarded "Horse Of The Year 2010" in Norway, is out for the rest of the season following his horrific fall on Tuesday May 31st in the Group 3 Stockholm Stora Pris at Täby.

Touch Of Hawk has suffered severe injuries to his body, including a malfunctioning lung and inner bleedings. A situation that will prevent him from running again through 2011.

The race itself has been widely commented, and I refuse to go into further discussions about the incident concerning stable companions Touch Of Hawk and Sir Lando. What I would like to reflect on though, is the stewards' handling of the case.

Ahern asked to see head-on video of the race when receiving his 7-day ban, but the stewards in Stockholm were unable to show the film due to the lack of a head-on camera.

Last year, I asked to watch a head-on video of a similar case, and given the answer that Täby does not have a head-on camera. I believe that Täby, as an international high profile race course, has failed in this matter.

Jan-Erik Neuroth delays comeback

(11/06/2011)

Stable jockey Jan-Erik Neuroth has delayed his comeback due to difficulties upon his fall on Touch Of Hawk in the Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris on May 31st.

The injury, which at first seemed under control, has proven worse than expected, and it will take a while for him to be back on track again.

Race comments, Stockholm 31st May

(11/06/2011)

La Zona: Ran a good race, but took a keen hold early on and eventually lost a good position from her inside draw. She fought well to finish third, but would have been 2nd with a better trip.

Alyshakeys: Proved herself as one of Scandinavia's finest sprinters on turf. The track rode fast, and under these conditions the distance 1150 meters is a bit too sharp for her. She gave Scandinavia's Champion Sprinter a race to the line, and we can only be highly excited about her future.

All eyes on Stockholm!

(29/05/2011)

31st of May is by far the most important raceday in Scandinavia during spring. We're racing for millions this Tuesday night in Sweden with seven stable stars participating in the main events.

The Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris over 1950m with 700.000 SEK for the winner holds three stable runners - Handsome Hawk/Fernando Diaz, Touch Of Hawk/Jan-Erik Neuroth and Sir Lando/Eddie Ahern.

Simian/Jan-Erik Neuroth and Alyshakeys/Eddie Ahern are aimed at the Listed Täby Vårsprint (L) over 1150m, while Walinda/Jan-Erik Neuroth runs in the Swedish 1000 Guineas and La Zona/Eddie Ahern targets the Listed Bloomers' Vase, both over a mile.

Sir Lando runner-up in Gerling Preis (Gr.2)

(09/05/2011)

Sir Lando marked himself as a leading prospect for a win at the highest level in Germany on Sunday, when runner-up to German Horse of The Year, Scalo/Lanfranco Dettori, in the Group 2 Gerling-Preis over 2400 meters at Cologne.

Ridden by Newmarket based Eddie Ahern, Sir Lando alsways travelled well, though we could have wished for a higher tempo. As the field kicked for home, Sir Lando used his speed to gain the lead 2½ furlongs out, and was only denied by less than a length on the line by the fast finishing Scalo.

We are very proud of Sir Lando's performance. He had come on plenty from his first outing in France, and he is still a big puppy who has plenty of room to progress further. His next stop will be the Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris in Sweden, before heading back to Germany for the Group 2 Hansa-Preis in Hamburg.

Action in Cologne and Stockholm

(07/05/2011)

We have horses in action in both Germany and Sweden on Sunday 8th of May!

Sir Lando will make his second appearance this term in the Group Gerling-Preis in Cologne. Ridden by our associated jockey, Eddie Ahern, Sir Lando will face six rivals, among them the 2010 German Horse of The Year and Group 1 winning Scalo.

In Stockholm we've decided to scratch both Handsome Hawk and Walinda due to the races being moved from turf to dirt track. Wellmind will make her seasonal debut in the Diana Trial, while Simian is following up on his pleasant reappearance in the Sprint Trial. Finally Silvani is running in the afternoon closer. All horses will be ridden by Fernando Diaz.

Also, stable jockey Jan-Erik Neuroth is having three rides in Hoppegarten, Germany.

Jan-Erik has been interviewed by the leading German racing site "Galopp-Online". Read the interview here (in German)!

La Zona in fine reappearance

(28/04/2011)

La Zona made her seasonal debut in Hannover last Monday, and though denied any prize money, she still showed plenty of class running on as sixth in the Listed Grosser Preis von Rossmann. She was beaten five lengths by 4-y-o Not For Sale, who claimed four kilos off her rivals.

We had hoped for soft ground in Hannover, and the faster surface did not help La Zona at all, but it was a pleasant reappearance and she will soon move on to bigger things.

Classic contender Vivere Cosi made his second career start on the same card in Preis von Hannover 96 over 2200 meter. There was a great lack of tempo in the race, and the winner Arrigo proved much too impressive, but our son of Hawk Wing once again showed his ability by ending up fourth, beaten less than a length from second and only a nose from third.

La Zona and Vivere Cosi bound for Hannover

(23/04/2011)

Top mare La Zona and 3-y-o Vivere Cosi are both bound for outings in Hannover, Germany, on Monday April 25th.

La Zona will make her reapperance in the Listed Grosser Preis von Rossmann over 2200m. She will be ridden by Jan-Erik Neuroths and faces eight strong rivals.

Vivere Cosi will hopefully improve from his first run a week ago in Krefeld, and though facing unknown opposition, he should go close this time around.

Vivere Cosi pleases in debut, Apilado just too fresh

(18/04/2011)

3-y-o Vivere Cosi (Hawk Wing) made a pleasant debut over 2050m in Krefeld on April 17. Ridden by Jan-Erik Neuroth, the colt went into the final turn last of all, and he wasn't favoured by the lack of early pace. Though he showed a tremendous turn of foot and eventually finished third in what looked a strong maiden race.

On the same card, fellow 3-y-o Apilado made his reappearance in the Group 3 Dr Busch Memorial over 1700m. Apilado proved way too fresh and pulled his chances away. He kept on well into the straight, until eventually tiring and fading into 7th. He will definitely appreciate the outing and improve from here.

Sir Lando, Apilado, Vivere Cosi ready for action

(14/04/2011)

Our international string of horses are well underway, and following Appel Au Maitre's third place in the German Grand Prix Premiere (Gr.3) in Cologne, 4-y-o Sir Lando will make his reappearance in the Listed Prix Seymour over 2400 meters at Longchamp on Thursday afternoon.

Sir Lando, ridden by Gaëtan Masure, heads 13 opponents in the Longchamp showpiece and he is expected to do well despite a nearly eight month layoff.

Our twice-winning two-year-old of 2010, German bred Apilado, will make his seasonal debut in the German Group 3 Dr. Busch Memorial at Krefeld on Sunday. Apilado won his two last outings last season, but he is facing a stiff task against prime German classic contenders such as Lindenthaler and Silvaner, both undefeated in their respective careers so far. Stable jockey Jan-Erik Neuroth will partner Apilado in Sundays's feature.

Jan-Erik Neuroth will also partner Vivere Cosi on the same card in Krefeld. The 3-y-o son of Hawk Wing is making his life time debut in a 2050m maiden against seven confirmed opponents.

Appel Au Maitre third in Germany's first Group 3

(04/04/2011)

Appel Au Maitre made a fine start to his 7-y-o campaign in Germany on Sunday, finishing a late running third in the Group 3 Grand Prix Premiere at Cologne. Having won this particular race last season, expectations for another big run were high, and we can be nothing but satisfied of his efforts.

Last year the Grand Prix Premiere was held two weeks later, which is a huge amount of time when coming from Scandinavia, and both Appel Au Maitre and Touch Of Hawk really needed the run in lead up to the Group 3 Walter Nilsens Memorial on May 17 in Norway.

As goes for Touch Of Hawk, his last place can be excused by the loose ground at Cologne. It didn't fit him at all, and when the field kicked for home, he had already used his entire energy just coping with the surface.

Our stable's next international starter will be 4-y-o Sir Lando, running at Longchamp in France on the 14th of April.

Appel Au Maitre and Touch Of Hawk reappear in Cologne

(31/03/2011)

Stable stars Appel Au Maitre and Touch Of Hawk are set to reappear in Sunday's Group 3 Grand Prix Premiere in Cologne, Germany. Appel Au Maitre and Touch Of Hawk fought it out to the line in last season's renewal, and they will clash again among seven other rivals including two of the prime German 3-y-o's of 2010, Zazou and Russian Tango.

Touch Of Hawk will be ridden by his traditional pilot Lennart Hammer, while Appel Au Maitre will be partnered by French jockey Gaëtan Masure. The Grand Prix Premiere is ridden over 2100 metres with a total of 55.000€ in prize money. The race is on at 17.10 Central European Time on Sunday.

Wido Neuroth claims Ahern and Pedroza

(03/03/2011)

We are pleased to announce that agreements have been made with both Eddie Ahern and Eduardo Pedroza for the upcoming racing season.

Eddie Ahern, based in Newmarket, will have first claim on horses owned by Stall Perlen, while Germany’s champion jockey Eduardo Pedroza will act as substitute in the event of Ahern not being able to ride. We will have either Eddie Ahern or Eddie Pedroza available on big race days throughout the season, and it is an important note that both jockeys are available for other horses within the stable, if they’re not already engaged by Stall Perlen.

Teaming up with two of Europe’s premier jockeys is a great step forward towards our goal of not only maintaining our position as number one in Scandinavia, but also to compete and win at the highest level in both Germany and France.

Preparations continue in Germany

(02/03/2011)

Eight of our stable's horses are on their way to Germany, where they will be prepared for the upcoming racing season. We are aiming at having our first horses ready to run in the beginning of April, with the Group 3 Grand Prix Premiere in Cologne being the first target. The stable took both first and second in this race a year ago, and our entries for the renewal include Appel Au Maitre, Sir Lando and Touch Of Hawk.

The horses currently on their way to Cologne are:
Appel Au Maitre, Sir Lando, Touch Of Hawk, La Zona, Concusion, Vivere Cosi, Apilado and Funny's Brother.

Partnership with Fredrik Johansson comes to an end

(22/02/2011)

After 14 years of succesful partnership, our agreement with Swedish jockey Fredrik Johansson has come to an end. Wido Neuroth is presently working towards an agreement to replace Johansson as the stable's jockey.

Jan-Erik Neuroth continues as regular stable jockey for Wido Neuroth.

Touch Of Hawk awarded "Horse Of The Year"

(28/01/2011)

Touch Of Hawk, owned by Stall E & F, was awarded Norwegian Horse Of The Year at the annual Horse Racing Ceremony in Oslo. Regularly ridden by Danish ace Lennart Hammer, the son of Hawk Wing took a Group 3 double when landing both the Stockholm Stora Pris in Sweden and the Marit Sveaas Memorial at home in 2010.

Furthermore he was second in the Group 3 Grand Prix Premiere in Cologne, beaten a neck by stable companion Appel Au Maitre.

Touch Of Hawk, a half brother to Group 1 placed globetrotter and sire Touch Of Land, will stay in training at five and has shuttled to Germany to prepare for the upcoming season.

Yet another Scandinavian Trainers' Title

(28/01/2011)

2010 was completed with yet another Scandinavian Trainer's Title.

The list concluded:

Happy New Year: 2010 concludes with a record

(09/01/2011)

The 2010 season has come to an end, and we're proud to announce that it concluded with a record 13th Norwegian Trainer's Championship - one more than legendary names as Terje Dahl and Arnfinn Lund. With prominent names as Touch Of Hawk, Appel Au Maitre and Alyshakeys staying in training, plus a strong classic hand and new promising 2-y-o's, I'm confident that our stable is on the path to a 14th Championship and to continue as number one in Scandinavia in 2011.

Stable jockey Jan-Erik Neuroth has begun his winter job in Australia, working between eight and nine horses a day and keeping fit for race riding. He will stay in Australia until joining our stable's shuttling horses in Germany on 1st of March.

I was happy to state that the late Lomitas ended 2010 as Leading Sire of 2-y-o winners in Germany, as our stable has a beautiful and promising 2-y-o filly by this sire for sale. She is progressing very well and will be prepared in Germany along with the other juveniles bought at international sales in 2010.

The 22nd of January is an exciting date, as we have two out of three horses nominated for "Horse of the Year" in Norway. Group 3 winners Touch Of Hawk and Alyshakeys are up against Entangle. Although we miss Appel Au Maitre, who won a Group 3 and was second in a Group 1 in Germany, we hope the award will go our way.

I wish you all a Happy and Succesful New Year

Wido Neuroth

Jan-Erik Neuroth off to Australia

(07/12/2010)

Stable jockey Jan-Erik Neuroth will soon leave Norway for Australia, where he will develop his skills and experience throughout the winter.

Jan-Erik partnered several of Wido Neuroth Racings horses in 2010 in the absence of Fredrik Johansson. His break through came when conquering the Group 3 Grand Prix Premiere aboard Appel Au Maitre in April, and among other notable wins he rode star filly La Zona to a brilliant six length win in the Listed Margareta Wettermarks Memorial in Sweden.

Jan-Erik Neuroth will join the horses shuttling to Germany on 1st of March.

Where is Appel Au Maitre?

(26/11/2010)

As proud as we are having two of the three nominated horses for the Norwegian Championship Awards, we also have to raise a frustrating question - where is Appel Au Maitre?

Nominated for the Norwegian Horse of the Year Award are: Alyshakeys, Touch Of Hawk and Entangle.

In april, Appel Au Maitre won the International Group 3 Grand Prix Premiere in Cologne, and he proved once again that he belongs at highest Stakes level when second in the Germain Group 1 Rheinland-Pokal in August.

He also ended 2010 with a rating of 97, once again earning him the status of Champion Horse in Scandinavia. That Appel Au Maitre is not even in contention for Norwegian Horse of the Year, must raise an eye brow or two within our industry.

Exactly what is it we're celebrating?

Stable will shuttle to Germany for winter training

(26/11/2010)

Wido Neuroth Racing has enjoyed many great moments abroad, and in our effort to continue delivering great results with our top horses we will once again shuttle to Germany during the beginning of 2011.

In february the likes of Touch Of Hawk, Handsome Hawk, Appel Au Maitre, Sir Lando, Alyshakeys and La Zona will move to our establishment in Krefeld, Germany, where we will prepare them for the new season in a milder climate with better training conditions. We will be aiming our Krefeld based horses at suitable races in both Germany and France in the spring - a method that proved highly useful this year, when Appel Au Maitre and Touch Of Hawk fought to the line in the Group 3 Grand Prix Premiere at Cologne.

The team of older horses will be joined by our upcoming 3-y-o's Apilado, who won his two final starts of 2010 showing much improvement, and Vivere Cosi who is still unraced. At the moment our internationally bred yearlings are being broken in UK and Ireland, and they too will join the German based yard in February.

We would like to use the opportunity to welcome any owners with the interest of having their horse trained by Wido Neuroth Racing in Germany to contact us, and we will gladly supply with any information about the shuttling. All horses will arrive back in Norway in the beginning of May with a head start to the Scandinavian racing season.

Approaching new Championship title

(26/11/2010)

The recently updated statistics show that we're approaching a new Championship title for Scandinavian trainers in 2010. So far we've won 31 races and close to 9 million SEK, which is well more than 1 million above our followers.

Winning the Trainers' Championship in 2010 will mark the 12th year in a row as the prime yard in Scandinavia. We're very proud of this achievement and already going forward to maintain this position in 2011 and beyond.

Lomitas yearling will join Wido Neuroth

(26/10/2010)

Yet another foreign bred yearling will join Wido Neuroth Racing after the trainer himself secured a chestnut filly by Lomitas at the German Baden-Baden Yearling Sale last Friday.

The filly is first foal out of the Dutch Listed winner Mattinata (Tiger Hill), and she descends from a strong German blood line, being closely related to Group 2 winner and Group 1 runner up Macleya and Group 1 German Derby runner up Malinas.

The yearling filly will be aimed at the big Scandinavian 2-y-o and Classic races in 2011 and 2012. She is for sale, and Wido Neuroth would gladly welcome new owners to join the stable.

"We have some very nice individuals for sale within the stable, and I would like to state that we're always looking for new clients to join the yard. This is needed to maintain our position as number one in Scandinavia, and the current prospects for sale does also highly appeal to racing syndicates with different shareholders", says Wido Neuroth.

There are currently three horses for sale which would fit the likes of a new racing syndicate - the 2-y-o unraced Vivere Cosi (Hawk Wing); a Danish bred yearling by Academy Award out of the sister to Funny Legend; as well as the most recent yearling purchase from Germany.

Please contact Wido Neuroth with any enquiries about a visit to the stable at Øvrevoll.

Touch Of Hawk unplaced in Baden-Baden

(23/10/2010)

Touch Of Hawk didn't fire in his last appearance of the season. The son of Hawk Wing was given a perfect ride by jockey Lennart Hammer, and there were no excuses when he faded from a prominent position to finish 8th two furlongs out.

He has had a long season, and his run below par indicated that it is time for a well deserved winter break. 2010 saw him win the Group 3 Marit Sveaas Minneløp and Listed Valley Chapel Memorial at home, as well a being runner-up on three occations in Norway, Sweden and Germany. Touch Of Hawk earned almost 1,6 million NOK in 2010 and will continue in training next season.

Touch Of Hawk ready for tilt at Baden-Baden

(21/10/2010)

Stable star Touch Of Hawk, owned by Stall E & F, is ready for another German assignment on Saturday October 23. The 4-y-o son of Hawk Wing is targeting the 1m3f (2200m) Group 3 Engelbert Strauss Trophy with 28.319£ for the winner. Ridden by Lennart Hammer-Hansen, Touch Of Hawk will face 11 opponents.

The race will count as a warm up for a possible trip to Hong Kong for the International Races Day, where both Touch Of Hawk and Appel Au Maitre are entered in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase. Last year Appel Au Maitre just came up short at the declaration stage where we was 1st reserve for the Vase.
